The new Droid phone will be available only from Verizion (of course with a 2 year signed contract, NO THANKS, just my opinion on contracts…) but the phone promises to have a “better-than-iPhone” experience for the user.
When you’ve had that great apple pie that grandma used to bake, with the crumbles on top – just barely warm and delicious… why in the world would you try to top it?
Evolution – that’s why.
I’m a believer in innovation through competition – through competition you also get evolution. Not all the time, not every day, but it does happen.
The folks over at Mobile Crunch have some good information about the device, totally worth a read.
Anyone who’s been waiting for the next big thing in phones will want to read the Boy Genius report on the Droid. BG goes in-depth (and does not disappoint in this review either).
Here’s a few specs on the phone (not all inclusive):
- Nearly identical in size to the iPhone: 2.4 x 4.6 x 0.5 inches.
- Heaver than the iPhone at 6 oz. compared to 4.8 oz. for iPhone.
- Slightly bigger screen than the iPhone. The Droid is 3.7-inch diagnal at 854×480 pixel resolution while the iPhone is 3.5-inch at 480×320 pixel resolutiun.
- The phone is 3G (just like iPhone)
- Has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth
- The battery is 1,400mAh which is marketed to say 6.5 hours of talk time and 270 hours of standby. The iPhone 3GS promises 5 hours of talk time and 300 hours standby.
My personal opinion – Good looking phone, but I will be hard pressed to buy another Motorola product again after gone through 4 Motorola phones that were all crap (died within 6 months of use). Motorola’s quality IS in question for me (especially with my QA background) and it should be on your mind as you make a decision to purchase the unit.
Have you wasted spent your money on this device?

Leave a comment – I’d like to be wrong – really, I would!
Promise the world to us Motorola – but screw me over and I’ll never buy your trash again.
