Video of the day > 2010 Ford Focus

This isn’t the same as a Toyota Camry, but the Microsoft Sync technology does make it very appealing. For a simple commuter car that doesn’t do too bad on miles-per-gallon, this may be the next best thing – I need to drive this myself to get a better sense of it… And 30+ miles to the gallon is a big bonus.

The car receives the VOD because it’s got the SYNC and so many folks are talking about it being the next best thing (and Ford didn’t take any bailout money, oh SLAM!)

New Laptop Design: The Rolltop Computer

New Laptop Design: The Rolltop Computer

Although what you see is the concept video of this laptop design, anyone who is involved with technology will recognize that all of the technology used here is available today.

I didn’t say this technology was affordable – give it 10 years and it could become as affordable as the common mobile phone.

Breaking: T-Mobile World Wide Outage

Breaking: T-Mobile World Wide Outage

cellphone_radio_towerTMobile outages reported in Utah, CA, Vegas, AZ, GA, TX, AL, IL, NY, FL states is Global Network Issue.

Read more here on T-Mobile.com (while it stays up) - their site has been reporting “No suitable nodes are available to serve your request” all afternoon while trying to verify this.

Let the trending begin (I’ll give it 5 minutes)…

Update: 5:15PM MST – News coming out this is primarily affecting Voice channels, @Home services, UMA services, and newer mobile devices even being recognized on the Tmobile network.   Also, just verified with another TMO tech guy everyone hitting the website causing it to crash.

Update: 5:33PM MST - From the official T-Mobile twitter page located at: http://twitter.com/TMobile_USA

TMobile_USA:
All – We’re aware
of the current service disruption. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible.

TMobile_USA:
We will provide further updates as more information is available.

Update: 5:54PM MST – T-Mobile rep on the phone confirms service should be back up by 12:00PM CST / Midnight CST and no longer than 24 hours.  That’s quite the outtage.

Update: 6:02PM MST - Is T-Mobile world wide outage conspiracy to the premier of V on TV tonight? Leave a comment – tell me what you think is happening.

Update: 6:20PM MST – Saw this is now getting wider coverage including Gizmodo (cool graphics too)

Looks like they, too, have called T-mobile for an official word (as have I) with the same result: “We will provide updates when more information is available.”

In other words, they don’t have a frickin’ clue what the heck is going on.  (I still like my theory of being a conspiracy & the premier of the television show V tonight.)

Update 6:50PM MST – Another set of big guns, Edgadget now has the T-Mobile outage on the front page and a sweet pic! HA!

Edgadget has an official statement from T-Mobile now:

T-Mobile customers may be experiencing service disruptions impacting voice and data. Our rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as more information is available.

Update 8:50PM MST – From @TMobile_USA

We’re making good progress restoring voice and messaging service to affective customers…

Only Gizmodo has any further updates (which I posted here) – nobody else reporting on it? Really?  Time to sit-and-wait…

Update 9:39PM MST – From @TMobile_USA

We have fully restored servces for customers affected by tonight’s service disruption

No sooner did I receive this tweet did I get a phone call!

Nice job for being down only 4 hours.

It’s a damn good thing my family or my company didn’t need have an emergency or need to reach me.  And no – don’t give me a bunch of hot-air about what “life was like 50 years ago without cell phones” because life really was different50 years ago – I could let my kids ride their bikes to Grandma’s or the corner store without worry of idiots behind the wheel not paying attention or freaks trying to snatch kids – it really was a different way of life.  Enough of that – I’ve got service and I’m headed home!

HELLO HUMANS: DROID by Motorola Arrives Today!

HELLO HUMANS: DROID by Motorola Arrives Today!

droid-phoneThe new Droid phone will be available only from Verizion (of course with a 2 year signed contract, NO THANKS, just my opinion on contracts…) but the phone promises to have a “better-than-iPhone” experience for the user.

When you’ve had that great apple pie that grandma used to bake, with the crumbles on top – just barely warm and delicious… why in the world would you try to top it?

Evolution – that’s why.

I’m a believer in innovation through competition – through competition you also get evolution.  Not all the time, not every day, but it does happen.

The folks over at Mobile Crunch have some good information about the device, totally worth a read.

Anyone who’s been waiting for the next big thing in phones will want to read the Boy Genius report on the Droid.  BG goes in-depth (and does not disappoint in this review either).

droid-againHere’s a few specs on the phone (not all inclusive):

  • Nearly identical in size to the iPhone: 2.4 x 4.6 x 0.5 inches.
  • Heaver than the iPhone at 6 oz. compared to 4.8 oz. for iPhone.
  • Slightly bigger screen than the iPhone. The Droid is 3.7-inch diagnal at 854×480 pixel resolution while the iPhone is 3.5-inch at 480×320 pixel resolutiun.
  • The phone is 3G (just like iPhone)
  • Has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth
  • The battery is 1,400mAh which is marketed to say 6.5 hours of talk time and 270 hours of standby. The iPhone 3GS promises 5 hours of talk time and 300 hours standby.

My personal opinion – Good looking phone, but I will be hard pressed to buy another Motorola product again after gone through 4 Motorola phones that were all crap (died within 6 months of use).  Motorola’s quality IS in question for me (especially with my QA background) and it should be on your mind as you make a decision to purchase the unit.

Have you wasted spent your money on this device?

Tell us what you think!

Leave a comment – I’d like to be wrong – really, I would!

Promise the world to us Motorola – but screw me over and I’ll never buy your trash again.
